This extra fine annunciator from late 1800’s France combined polished
dovetailed mahogany construction with brass mounts and verre eglomise (in golf
leaf and black) to create a very artful gadget. Measuring 25 5/8” x 19 3/8”
wide x 3” deep, its bold graphics are printed on paper fans that are triggered
by simple copper wrapped wooden coils mounted to a solid oak back. Most often
employed in small inns or hotels, these flags indicated the room to which the
serving staff were to attend. This machine is in exceptionally nice condition
with expected paint spatters and missing several brass screws that hold the
hinged front in place. You will note typical flaking of black paint that can
use some touch-up; the gold is fine.
