Finely carved mid 20th Century Chukotka Eskimo snow goggles. Color browned
The small right rear side edge is missing, it has come undone and there is
some glue residue (please look at the last 2 photos).
This, like many other objects of the Chukotka Natives of the time, is an
artifact between the tribally used object and the "souvenirs" exchanged with
the sailors and soldiers of the Red Army who worked sporadically in those
areas, in the Soviet era, creating a sort of "prototurism". It is difficult to
establish for which of the two purposes it was carved (and often the first did
not exclude the other).
